Today, a single question can lead us to countless answers.
But can we trust that the answers <\/span>generated<\/span>by <\/span>A<\/span><\/b>I<\/strong>are truly fair?<\/span><\/p>

When you search for \u201cAfrica\u201d using generative AI, <\/span>the results are often limited to images of poverty, hunger, conflict, jungles, and tribes.<\/strong>But this is not the full<\/span>picture
of a continent home\u00a0<\/span>to 1.4 billion people.<\/span><\/p>

VANK has long worked to correct distortions about Korea in generative AI systems.\nNow, going beyond Korea, we are launching a global campaign with Yonhap News\nto expose and correct AI bias and fragmented views about Africa.<\/p>

We aim to challenge the widespread misconceptions about Africa in AI models\nby providing high-quality, diverse data that better reflects the reality of the continent.<\/p>

In Korean elementary school textbooks, Africa is still often portrayed through fixed images of poverty, hunger, and civil war.<\/p>

Textbooks are a child\u2019s starting point for understanding the world.\nWhen filled with fragmented or distorted information, they can plant harmful stereotypes at an early age.<\/p>

In response, VANK is actively requesting corrections <\/span>from the Ministry of Education and textbook publishers,<\/b> and is leading a national campaign
<\/span>to improve awareness of Africa<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

To ensure education based on accurate information and fair perspectives,\nnow is the time for all of us to rewrite the story of Africa.

Western media still often portrays Africa as a continent of hunger, war, and poverty.<\/strong>In reality, Africa is rapidly growing
\u20149 out of the top 20 countries in real GDP growth
are in Africa.
It is a continent of incredible diversity and dynamism, home to over 3,000 ethnic groups and more than 2,000 languages.<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

In 2015, a global social media movement began with the hashtag
#TheAfricaTheMediaNeverShowsYou<\/b>, challenging narrow portrayals of Africa.
Building on that spirit,\u00a0VANK is launching <\/span>a citizen-driven social media campaign
: <\/span>#Unlearn Africa #Relearn Africa<\/strong>to widely share Africa\u2019s beauty, modernity, and rich cultural values.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Moving forward, VANK also plans to analyze the bias in Africa-related content\non foreign country information sites and encyclopedias,\nand launch follow-up campaigns to correct and improve that information.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Traditional world maps distort our view\u2014enlarging Europe and North America, while shrinking Africa.\n\nIn reality, Africa is massive\u2014comparable in size to China, India, the U.S., and most of Europe combined.<\/p>

However, Africa is a vast continent roughly the size of China, India, the United States,\u00a0and Europe combined,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and it possesses\u00a0
more cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity<\/b>than<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>any other continent in the world<\/b><\/span> .\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

To help shift global perceptions, <\/span>VANK has created a new
\u201cAfrica-Centered World Map\u201d based on the Robinson projection,<\/strong>This is more than just a change in geographic positioning\u2014
t represents\u00a0<\/span>a bold rethinking of\u00a0<\/span>how we view the world itself<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Notably, the bottom section of the map includes the names, capitals, populations, and land areas of all 54 African countries,\nproviding a more detailed and comprehensive understanding of the continent\u2019s true scope and reality.<\/p>

Through this map, we can go beyond prejudice,

VANK is actively working to correct misconceptions about Africa\u00a0through a wide range of initiatives
\u2014from policy proposals to public engagement<\/strong>.<\/p>

Through its national policy platforms, Ullim and Yeollim, VANK is advocating for institutional changes\u00a0
such as the correction of distorted portrayals of Africa in elementary school textbooks and the renaming of \u201cAfrican Swine Fever (ASF)\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>\ub4f1
to avoid misleading terminology.<\/p>

On social media, including its official Instagram account (@vank_prkorea), VANK has shared street interviews on perceptions of Africa and videos introducing Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls (Victoria Falls).\nThese contents aim to highlight Africa\u2019s cultural diversity and modernity, encouraging people to see the continent not through prejudice, but through a lens of solidarity.<\/p>
